Bio
Mary Ann Scarpino is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-NP). Her career spans over forty-three years working as an RN from 1974 until 2007 at which time she began working as an advance practice nurse in both hospital and community mental health clinic settings.
She values a holistic, individualized approach to mental health treatment that, in addition to medications, may include brief psychotherapy, psych and medication education. She believes that the combination of medications and therapy provides the best treatment outcomes while acknowledging that for some mental health concerns, therapy alone is a more appropriate treatment option.
Mary Ann has been prescribing mental health medications for over ten years and tends to embrace a more conservative approach in her prescribing practices, particularly in prescribing controlled substances such as benzodiazepines and stimulants.
“I encourage my clients to actively participate in treatment decisions and I strive to communicate honestly in formulating those decisions. I provide a safe, supportive environment in which clients will hopefully feel comfortable asking questions, addressing concerns and resolving conflicts.”
In her free time, Mary Ann enjoys performing as a vocalist with various friends and local musicians. She also likes hiking, skiing, playing board games and visiting with friends and family.
